OFFICIAL MISSION STATEMENT

Delphian Magazine Mission Statement

At Delphian Magazine, we provide a platform for emerging artists to showcase their “redemption artwork” as they progress through rehabilitation and transform their lives.

We define “Redemption Art” as any artwork created by an incarcerated or formerly incarcerated individual, art that reflects the artist’s personal journey of growth, healing, and self-reflection. We believe in the power of transcendence through art, when a piece of art evolves into something greater than its creator intended, the artist themselves also grows and transforms.

Delphian Magazine is not a political, religious, or spiritual publication. We do not use our platform to promote specific belief systems or lifestyles. However, we recognize that art is a powerful form of expression, and we will never censor artwork based on its political, religious, or spiritual themes. We believe that the freedom to create and experience art is essential to a healthy democracy.

We are committed to inclusivity. We will not tolerate discrimination based on race, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, socioeconomic background, criminal history, immigration status, religious beliefs, spiritual practices, or political views. Every individual reader has the right to personally accept or reject a piece of art, but no one has the right to suppress artwork or artists based on personal objections or disagreements.

All submissions will be reviewed before publication, and restrictions may be applied to artwork that contains obscene elements without serious artistic value or that promotes racism, violence, or discrimination.

At Delphian, we believe in a restorative approach to the criminal justice system. We recognize that open communication between the incarcerated and the society they will one day return to is a crucial, yet often overlooked, step in the process. By giving incarcerated artists a voice and platform, we aim to foster understanding and empathy, helping to break down the barriers between the incarcerated community and society at large.

In all of our interactions, whether with incarcerated individuals or the public, we at Delphian strive to maintain the highest standards of integrity. We will offer incarcerated individuals the current issue of Delphian Magazine free of charge, ensuring that they can access the latest content without financial barriers.
